Theta Chi Chapter History
The Zetas at Mason started off as a small local sorority called Delta Sigma Delta. The Delta Sigs took a very active part in life at GMU. They watched other nationals settle on campus: Chi Omega in 1970, Phi Mu in 1972, Sigma Kappa in 1973, which folded that same year, and Alpha Omicron Pi in 1978. None of these rivaled the young women of Delta Sigma Delta in academics, social, or service.
The girls of Delta Sigma Delta decided they should become a national sorority.
All the Panhellenic Sororitys had a chance to come tell the Delta Sigs what their sororities meant to them. The final choice was made. Zeta Tau Alpha was the only sorority that matched the sisterhood and sincerity that had been a vital part of Delta Sigma Delta. A petition was written, signed, and sent to ZTA requesting permission to become a chapter.
On October 18, 1980, one era ended and another was born.
